Dr Gabrielle Thongs

Dr. Gabrielle Thongs holds a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Surveying and Land Information as well as a M.Sc. in Planning and Development from UWI, St. Augustine. Her Ph.D. research was focused on assessing multiple hazards and social vulnerabilities in the Caribbean. While furthering her education, she worked on several regional and local consultancy projects relating to disaster management, social vulnerability, agriculture, land use practices, and GPS Systems. These endeavours led her to actively collaborate with researchers in disaster risk reduction, urban planning, and GIS throughout the region.
She is currently lecturing in the Department of Geography, UWI, St. Augustine, where she has been a faculty member since 2016. Gabrielle now lectures the natural hazards, urban planning, remote sensing, and GIS modelling courses. Meanwhile, her ongoing research interests lie in a wide range of thematic areas including Caribbean case studies in urban resilience, disaster risk reduction, and spatial data modelling.
